Modernism and Traditionalism

Modern day and its inventions bring tons of exciting experiences to every single corner of the globe. It blurred the boundary between old and new private and public famous and unknown. It made experiencing new cultures understanding new ideas and maybe even become the source of compare and contrast essays about our adventures abroad and our routines at home. In this essay I’ll explore those points and ask both you and myself those questions.

This image was a traveler wet dream a local woman wearing traditional attire posing for the camera but this is not a scene from a bygone era we actually hired a model for a beach photoshoot Finding a modern Indonesian woman in kebaya as a daily outfit just to lounge around on a rock by the beach is practically impossible

What is the value of culture in a melting pot of ideas and an endless chase of fame The modern world powered by a boundless and borderless internet is starting to chip away at ancient stone walls This is not new, The Saxons did it centuries ago and the Vandals changed the meaning of their entire tribe through forceful cultural exchange. What makes it different now is that people are doing it willingly and ideas spread at lightning speed. Holding on to the past could sweep us away

Is it an intrusion of privacy on locals or just people trying to beat the thick algorithm? What is the balance between being authentic and going viral? Is it skill or pure luck?

With brain rotting trends and the pursuit of one second of fame everyone is trying to crack the wall between being virtually unknown and jumping to the other side It feels like a bunch of Saruman’s orc charging toward Helms Deep. Many have tried but only one fool with a big metal sphere and sheer determination might blow a hole through it.

Yet with everyone chasing mind blowing moments we could slow down and hone our understanding of ourselves before running blindly and hoping for the best.

Hindsight is something we cannot afford in our present day. It will catch up with us one day. When an episode ends we ask ourselves what the hell did I just do? Looking back through the noise and haze of misinformation we try to judge how modernism changed our lives. Those changes are constantly evolving trend by trend. They might not even matter in the history of humankind but they creep into our life one frame at a time leaving us chasing a never ending identity shift

We can embrace tradition but still live in the future Now
